This course of instruction consists of both classroom instruction and field exercises. This course is designed to train an entry-level protection agent in the operational phases of Counter Assault Team Tasks. It has been designed to provide the student with the knowledge necessary to perform Counter Assault Operations. The student will be able to discuss, describe and understand the concepts, team requirements, organization, equipment, positioning, communications and intelligence requirements for a specialized Counter Assault Team responsible for supporting the VIP Protective Services personnel. Counter Assault Team members are expected to be capable of employing advanced weapons skills. These weapons are the Pistol, MP-5, and the M-4. They will learn how to provide CAT support at fixed locations. Upon completion of this block of instruction, each student will understand the elements and skills associated with providing CAT support at such places as residences, RON’s, conference centers, etc. This course of instruction will teach the students motorcade related tactics that are applicable to CAT Team responsibilities, as well as incorporate their marksmanship skills during live fire Immediate Action Drills. Students will perform various Contact Drills in all vehicle positions to include supporting the Gun Car’s responsibilities. Students are taught how to gain Fire Superiority by the use of enveloping fields of fire, proper use of afforded cover, good Verbal/Non-verbal communication and proper techniques for exiting vehicles in a combative situation. This course of instruction includes rapid helicopter insertion techniques via Fast Roping/Rappelling to implement Secondary Response CAT Team tactics. All training is performance-based-training to insure that the participants are absorbing the instructional material by evaluating their ability to successfully put the theory into practice.
Candidate Requirements:
A candidate for this course must be a sworn police officer in good standing in his department, a military soldier or some other official government agent recommended for the course by his government. He should possess strength of body, mind and character and be a willing learner. He should be a team player and not an individualist.
